We gather at Hotel Aeropuerto, where we'll spend the first night of our tour. The following morning we fly to southern Costa Rica for a 3 night stay at Hotel El Ceibo while visiting Wilson Botanical Gardens. We then drive north for a 3 night stay at Savegre Mountain Lodge in the Talamanca Mountains before returning to San Jose for our last night back at Hotel Aeropuerto.
HOTEL EL CEIBO
Hotel El Ceibo is the best hotel in the town of San Vito, a 10 minute drive from Wilson Botanical Gardens. It is situated on a quiet cul-de-sac in a safe part of town. The hotel is built with Italian-style architecture and has balustrades overlooking potted palms in the courtyard. There is a large restaurant in the hotel plus there are several restaurants located nearby. The hotel also has a lounge with TV and a small bar. The hotel offers 40 rooms, which are small but clean and comfortable. Half the rooms have balconies overlooking a wooded ravine that is alive with birds. All rooms have private bath with hot-water showers and ceiling fans but no air conditioning. Each room has one double and one single bed. TOP
SAVEGRE MOUNTAIN HOTEL
Savegre Mountain Hotel is located in San Gerardo de Dota, a small community in the midst of a precious ecosystem in the Talamanca Mountains. The hotel lies at the bottom of a steep-walled mountain valley, offering fine scenery for the enjoyment of visitors. The nearby cloud forest reserve is sanctuary for a large number of mammals and innumerable species of insects, amphibians, amazing plants and higher elevation birds, making it a paradise for birders. Over 170 bird species have been observed in the area and along the multiple hiking trails in the forest. The area is known as one of the best places in the country to observe Resplendent Quetzals, who live there year-round. The grounds include beautiful gardens with colorful flowers and hummingbird feeders attracting numerous hummingbirds.
All rooms include comfortable double beds, private bath with hot water, heating systems, and the amenities of first class service. The lodge restaurant offers meals served a la carte or buffet style, each providing a wide and delicious variety of international and traditional Costa Rican cuisine, as well as the house specialty - freshly caught rainbow trout. The lodge also offers a bar and lounge with large windows providing close-up views of hummingbirds at the feeders. TOP
