Gray Francolin - courtesy Leio De SouzaOur Northern India birding tour covers all the most important birding areas in this part of the country from the Jhalana Leopard Reserve and Ranthambore National Park south of Delhi to the foothills of the Himalayas around Jim Corbett National Park and the Nainital and Sattal region in the north. In addition to superb birding, we expect to see a good number of mammals including Leopards and Bengal Tigers. This tour can be taken any time between November and April, but the best months are March and April at end of dry season when tigers are most easily seen around water holes. We stay in comfortable hotels and lodges throughout the tour.

Black-throated Tit - courtesy Leio De SouzaThe tour begins with morning arrival in Delhi followed by afternoon visits to Sultanpur National Park and the nearby Basai Wetlands. We then travel southwest to the Jhalana Leopard Reserve in the Aravalli Hills near Jaipur for a two night stay. From there we travel eastward to Ranthambhore National Park, best place in India to see Bengal Tigers, for a 3 night stay. We'll spend a full day and the following morning on safari in the park birding and looking for tigers. We then continue on to Bharatpur, where we'll take a boat trip on the Chambal River, visit the Taj Mahal, and spend a full day birding in Keoladeo National Park. From there we drive north to the Himalayan foothills and Jim Corbett National Park. We'll spend three full days birding in the park and in surrounding areas before heading to Pangot, our base for exploring middle elevation foothills of the Himalayas for two days. We then move on to Bhimtel, a tourist resort town, our base while birding the area around Sattal. Our last day is mainly a transfer back to Delhi, where we'll relax the last evening before our international flights home the following day.

TOUR NOTES
