Madagascar is a spectacular tour destination that makes up for the relatively small number of bird species with the high number of endemics. In addtion, it is a special place to visit because it's the only place in the world to see lemurs. Our extended tour covers most important birding areas in Madagascar including the arid southwest, the rainforests of Ranomafana and Andasibe areas, the remote Bemanevika area where the Madagascar Pochard was rediscovered, the dry forest of Ankarafantsika, and the wetlands around Mahajanga. More than 130 species of birds and over 12 species of lemurs are likely to be seen on this tour.

The tour begins with arrival in the capital city of Antananarivo. The next morning fly to the southwest coastal city of Tulear. After visiting Arboretum d'Antsokay in Tulear, drive north to Ifaty. Following full day in Ifaty dry forest. Transfer to Anakao and do afternoon boat trip to Nosy Ve. Transfer to Tsimanampetsotsa National Park. Birding there the next morning, then transfer back to Anakao for overnight. Transfer to Isalo National Park, stopping enroute for birding at Zombitse National Park. Full at at Isalo, followed by two full days at Ranomafana National Park. Transfer back to Antananarivo. Morning transfer east to the Andasibe area. Afternoon visit VOIMMA community reserve and then night birding in Mitsinjo Forest Reserve. All day next birding Mantadia section of Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. Following day birding Maromizaha Reserve. After another overnight, morning birding in Analamazaotra Reserve with afternoon transfer back to Antananarivo. Early next morning visit Tsarasotra Lake inside the city limits. Afternoon end of tour at the aiport for international departure.
