Resplendent Quetzal - © Laura L Fellows and Exotic Birding LLCOur birding tour to Panama offers a unique mix of Central and South American bird species commingling in the area surrounding the Panama Canal plus a nice mix of highland specialties and near endemics in the western highlands. The tour begins with a full day of birding the dry deciduous forest of Metropolitan Park overlooking the Panama Canal. Next day is a visit to the Bayano lowland forest of eastern Panama where many Darien endemics not present elsewhere in Panama can be found. Then the tour covers Old Gamboa Road, a vehicle-free roadway through lowland tropical forest, followed by a transfer to the Caribbean side of the Canal Zone. There a full day will be spent birding famed Achiote Road focusing on specialties of the eastern slope before returning to the Pacific slope. Next up is a morning birding famed Pipeline Road following by two full days birding the higher elevation area around El Valle de Anton. The tour then proceeds to western Chiriqui Province where numerous regional endemics found only in southern Costa Rica and western Panama can be seen. The tour ends with a flight back to Panama City and an overnight stay there before international flights depart next morning. Accommodations are generally good throughout the tour.
